Production has officially begun on the second season of Mara Brock Akil’s Forever at Netflix. The show has also added three new faces — one series regular and two recurring — to its cast.
Malaika Guttoh has joined the cast as a series regular with Avery Wills Jr. (Swagger, Shooting Stars) and Tre McBride (Fight for ‘84) joining as recurring guests. Guttoh will play Ameena. Wills Jr. will play Jaden, and Tre McBride will play Elijah.
Season 2’s logline teases a time jump for Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.) as the next installment will pick up four years later, post-pandemic, with the pair doing well and in new relationships. They also have real jobs, and they go about their separate lives as adults until they run into each other in the summer of 2023. This begs the question, “Can exes really be friends?”
Karen Pittman (The Morning Show), Wood Harris (Remember the Titans), and Xosha Roquemore (Captain America: Brave New World) will also return as series regulars. Pittman and Harris play Justin’s parents, Dawn and Eric, and Rosquemore plays Keisha’s mother Shelly.
Akil serves as showrunner, creator and executive producer. Regina King, Susie Fitzgerald, Reina King and Erika Harrison are also executive producers.
Grammy-Award winning Khris Riddick-Tynes’ will join as the Executive Music Producer for Season 2 with Kier Lehman returning as Music Supervisor and Original Music by Until Tomorrow.
