Beyoncé’s special connection to Blue Ivy’s Met Gala 2026 red carpet debut revealed

Like mother, like daughter.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy, made her Met Gala debut at almost the same age her superstar mom was when she stepped on a red carpet for the first time 29 years ago.

The “Halo” hitmaker’s mom, Tina Knowles, opened up about Beyoncé’s special connection to Blue Ivy’s Met Gala 2026 appearance during an interview on the “Today” show Tuesday morning.

“I got really emotional, shed a few tears,” Knowles, 72, confessed.

“It was kind of reminiscent, because Beyoncé started her first red carpet at 15, and Blue is 14, so just seeing her out there looking confident and beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes,” she continued.

Knowles then agreed that it was like “déjà vu” after co-host Al Roker noted that seeing Beyoncé and Blue Ivy together was “like looking at both versions” of the 44-year-old “Crazy in Love” singer.

The 35-time Grammy winner’s mom, who was on the NBC morning show to discuss her memoir “Matriarch,” also shared a few of her other favorite looks from the biggest night in fashion.

Besides her daughter’s and granddaughter’s outfits, Knowles also admired Yu-Chi Lyra Kuo’s, Rihanna’s and Anok Yai’s.

Blue Ivy became one of the youngest people to walk the Met Gala red carpet on Monday night when she walked the steps alongside her famous parents.

Although recent rules state that gala attendees must be at least 18 years of age, exceptions are made for those accompanied by their parents.

She added gold heels, and her outfit was accessorized with a diamond necklace, rings and a hand chain.

As for Beyoncé, she returned to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for fashion’s biggest night for the first time in 10 years.

The “Irreplaceable” singer hit the star-studded soirée in a skeleton-inspired gown with matching bone-adorned gloves.

Beyoncé, who served as one of this year’s co-chairs, completed her look with diamond earrings, a bejeweled headpiece and a $50 million necklace. She also layered her outfit with a furry coat featuring a long train.

“It feels surreal because my daughter’s here. She looks so beautiful. It’s incredible to be able to share it with her,” the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer told Vogue while on the red carpet. “She was ready! She is ready.”

Meanwhile, Jay-Z wore a double-breasted Louis Vuitton suit with a flower lapel pin and dress shoes.

The power couple’s 8-year-old twins, daughter Rumi and son Sir, were understandably absent from the family affair.
