FX surprised The Bear fans with a new one-off episode of the series ahead of the fifth and final season’s premiere next month.
Titled “Gary,” the episode is a flashback following cousins Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey (Jon Bernthal) on a work trip to Gary, Indiana. The stars of the episode also co-wrote it, and series creator Christopher Storer directed.
Per the official description, the episode follows “the two friends’ complicated relationship, uncovering new layers of Mikey’s mental state while offering crucial insight into the man Richie is when audiences first meet him in season one — adding emotional context that reframes their story from the very beginning.”
Moss-Bachrach revealed the surprise on his social media, writing: “COUSINS! PRIMOS! CUGINI!!! Get ready for GARY!!!! We are so excited to finally share this little adventure with Richie and Mikey.”
The Bear was renewed for Season 5 in July and it is set to premiere later in June. An exact date has yet to be revealed.
The show, which was created by Christopher Storer, also stars Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas and Matty Matheson, with Oliver Platt and Molly Gordon in recurring roles. Produced by FX Productions, Storer exec produces alongside alongside Josh Senior, Joanna Calo, Cooper Wehde, Tyson Bidner, Matty Matheson, Hiro Murai and Rene Gube.
