Broadway Hit ‘Ragtime’ To Launch North American Tour This Fall

Lincoln Center Theater’s hit Broadway musical revival Ragtime will launch a North American tour in fall of 2027, producers announced today.

Directed by Lear deBessonet, the artistic director of LCT, the tour will premiere at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre in Buffalo, New York, before continuing onto cities across the U.S. and Canada.

Dates, additional tour stops and casting will be announced later.

Ragtime is one of the most ambitious musicals ever written, and it feels timelier than ever,” said producers Tom Kirdahy, Kevin Ryan, Robert Greenblatt, and Lamar Richardson in a statement. “What Lear deBessonet and this extraordinary company have created at Lincoln Center Theater is both epic in scale and deeply human. We couldn’t be more excited to share it with communities across North America.”

DeBessonet’s Ragtime revival was first produced in 2024 by New York City Center in an acclaimed Off Broadway staging before transferring to Broadway’s Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center last fall. The production is a sell-out week after week, typically grossing more than $1 million a week. Based on E.L. Doctorow’s 1975 novel, the musical features a score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, book by Terrence McNally, and orchestrations by William David Brohn.

The synopsis: “Ragtime weaves fictional narratives with real historical figures and events, creating a rich tapestry that blurs the line between personal struggle and national identity, making history feel both intimate and epic.”

The Broadway cast includes Joshua Henry, Caissie Levy, Brandon Uranowitz, Colin Donnell, Shaina Taub, Ben Levi Ross, Nichelle Lewis, Anna Grace Barlow, John Clay III, Rodd Cyrus, Allison Blackwell and Jason Forbach.

The creative team for Ragtime includes Ellenore Scott (choreography), David Korins (scenic design), Linda Cho (costume design), Adam Honoré & Donald Holder (lighting design), Kai Harada (sound design), 59 Studio (projection design), Tom Watson (hair & wig design), Ann James (sensitivity specialist), and The Telsey Office, Craig Burns, CSA (casting).
