Why Meghan Markle’s estranged dad Thomas is ditching Philippines, moving back to the US

Meghan Markle’s estranged father is moving back to the United States.

Thomas Markle left the Philippines, where he moved last year, to pursue “ongoing medical care” in America, according to his daughter Samantha Markle.

“He will be … surrounded by family and friends to support him,” Samantha, 61, said (via the Mirror UK) of the 81-year-old, who underwent an emergency leg amputation in December 2025.

“He will be able to get the best prosthetics here,” she noted. “Even though he has been through such traumatic times, this has been a positive spiritual experience for dad.”

The former lighting director has been residing in Cebu with son Thomas Markle Jr. since January 2025.

That October, Thomas Sr. was there during a massive 6.9-magnitude earthquake.

Thomas was “stuck on the 19th floor of a building,” according to Samantha, who tweeted that her dad couldn’t “walk and [was] trapped.”

Slamming Markle and husband Prince Harry, Samantha wrote via X that she hoped “the same thing” would happen to the couple.

Two months later, news broke that Thomas was in the ICU having an emergency procedure done.

“His foot turned blue and then black,” Thomas Markle Jr. told the Daily Mail last year. “It happened very quickly. … They did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated.”

Thomas Sr., who is getting a prosthetic leg, is now in a relationship with his much-younger nurse.

During his health scare, he pleaded with Meghan to contact him, insisting he needed to see her “one more time before [he] die[s].”

Although Meghan, 44, did “reach out” to her dad during his hospital stay, according to her rep, Samantha vehemently denied this.

She claimed, “Houston there’s been no contact… Time to stop the PR bulls–t Medusa.”

However, Meghan’s spokesperson confirmed to Page Six the Duchess of Sussex had a letter “safely” delivered to Thomas Sr.
