20th Century Studios has offered a first look at The Dog Stars, Ridley Scott‘s post-apocalyptic thriller based on the novel by Peter Heller, which is slated to open in theaters on August 28.
The film version “is particularly tailored for the big screen. Every frame, I hope, will really blow you away,” the director told exhibitors in a video message.
Jacob Elordi leads the film as a grief-stricken pilot who’s accompanied by his loyal dog in navigating a post-pandemic American wilderness, clinging to survival and the faint hope of human connection after a mysterious radio transmission suggests they may not be alone.
In footage unveiled today during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas, his character finds two other survivors and they join up to navigate the dark new world. They know they have no idea what’s out there, but also that it’s nothing good.
Penned by Mark L. Smith, the veteran scribe behind Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s The Revenant, the film also stars Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce and Benedict Wong.
Scott produced the picture alongside Scott Free president Michael Pruss, as well as Smith and Cliff Roberts.
