Peacock is staying in The ‘Burbs, renewing the breakout suburban mystery comedy series, starring and executive produced by Keke Palmer, for a second season.
The pickup comes two months after The ’Burbs‘s high-profile launch on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 8. Promoted with spots during the game on NBC and Peacock, all 8 episodes dropped on the streamer right after. As a result, The ‘Burbs had the highest Day 1 for a Peacock original ever.
Since then, the series has generated more than 1.7 billion viewing minutes on the domestic platform. The ’Burbs also made Nielsen’s U.S. Originals Top 10 for four consecutive weeks, the weeks of Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23, peaking at No.2, an impressive feat since the ranking is based on minutes viewed, putting comedies with shorter run times like The ‘Burbs at a disadvantage.
“We’re so thrilled that audiences loved season one of The ’Burbs, and are going to get to spend more time in Hinkley Hills with Keke and the rest of this incredible cast,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBC & Peacock. “A huge congratulations to all of the writers, producers and crew who updated the beloved original film and made something funny, warm and highly contemporary.”
Inspired by Imagine Entertainment’s 1989 horror-comedy film of the same name and set in present-day suburbia, The ’Burbs follows a young couple (Palmer, Jack Whitehall) who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood.

Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch and Kapil Talwalkar also star in the series, created by Celeste Hughey.
Season 1 was written executive produced by Hughey and Rachel Shukert and executive produced by Palmer as well as Seth MacFarlane, Erica Huggins and Aimee Carlson for Fuzzy Door, Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner and Natalie Berkus for Imagine Entertainment and director Nzingha Stewart. Dana Olsen served as co-executive producer.
UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio on The ‘Burbs, which has been sold to more than 100 territories.
