The Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack is available to stream on Spotify, more than 19 years after the hit game was first released.
Over the weekend, Nintendo quietly uploaded the 71-song Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack to Spotify alongside the music of the 2010 sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2.
It’s the first time the music, composed by Mahito Yokota, Koji Kondo, Ryo Nagamatsu and performed by the Mario Galaxy orchestra, has been available to stream outside of Nintendo’s Music app. However, according to the Spotify description, both soundtracks will only be available for a “limited” time.
“Nintendo and Spotify are welcoming fans to the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary and the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie with new playlists and a special in-app experience,” explained a Spotify blog. “Through official soundtracks from these beloved games, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, listeners can relive memories of adventures, characters, and stages on this playlist, experiencing the world of the games on Spotify.”
Earlier this month, the soundtrack to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie was made available to Spotify subscribers and a vinyl release was also confirmed.
Since it launched in October 2024, new albums have been added to Nintendo Music every week for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Last August, the first Switch 2 game soundtracks were added to the service with a preview of Kirby Air Riders’ music though fans are still waiting on the brilliant Mario Kart World soundtrack to be released.
Speaking about it in an interview with the Washington Post last year Bill Trinen, vice president of player and product experience at Nintendo America, explained: “I can’t go into too much detail, but I can say that it does actually take time and work to prepare soundtracks for Nintendo Music. And that soundtrack is particularly robust. It’s a matter of looking at the calendar and saying whether something might fit in or not. We’ve certainly heard that people are eager to see that on Nintendo Music.”
Following the popularity of Nintendo Music, the company’s president Shuntaro Furukawa has teased the possibility of live orchestral tours.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was released earlier this month and despite not being a hit with critics, has become the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far. Last week, Nintendo boss Shigeru Miyamoto called the harsh reviews “baffling”.
In other news, Square Enix has confirmed three new vinyl releases to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 10.
