Shakira crew member crushed to death in horrific accident days before Brazil show

An individual “working on assembling the structures for” Shakira’s upcoming Brazil show died of “crushing injuries” over the weekend.

Six days before the singer is set to perform at Todo Mundo no Rio, event organizers confirmed a fatal incident on Sunday “tragically claimed the life of a professional.”

The concert’s official Instagram account revealed, “First responders provided initial care at the scene, and the Fire Department was immediately called to transport the patient. Unfortunately, the professional passed away at the hospital.”

The statement concluded, “At this time, we are providing all support, comfort, and solidarity to the responsible company, its team and the victim’s family.”

Additionally, the state fire brigade told People the male “worker suffered crushing injuries to his lower limbs in a lifting system.”

The person was “removed from the equipment by other employees present … before the arrival of emergency teams.”

The statement confirmed, “Military personnel from the ambulance service of the 3rd Maritime Group (GMAR-Copacabana) immediately began pre-hospital care on the victim, who was then transported to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital. Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, death was confirmed.”

According to witness Antonio Marcos Ferreira dos Santos, the victim was “trapped underneath” a structure that fell down “on the ground.”

The beachgoer (via France24) noted that “out of nowhere [he] saw people running” as individuals worked to “pull out” the man.

Shakira’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The singer, 49, was named as the headliner for Todo Mundo no Rio, a free outdoor concert on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach, in February.

The show will take place on May 2.

Shakira gushed over the upcoming performance via Instagram on Saturday.

“Almost there, Rio!!!” the Grammy winner captioned sultry snaps of herself sans shirt covering up with a fan.

“Prepping so many surprises for you: guest artists, new wardrobe, songs you’ll love to hear,” she added. “Can’t wait to be there.”
