Selena Gomez Gushes Over 'Legend' Martin Short At Netflix Doc Premiere

By now you’ve likely heard Selena Gomez gush more than once over her Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short. Over five wacky amateur podcast detective seasons of the hit Hulu show, the singer/actress and veteran stand-up/actor have developed a delightful, heart-warming, cross-generational friendship that seems to extend well beyond their screen time together.

On Wednesday night (May 6) Gomez, 33, proved their bond is as strong as ever when she posted a series of pics of the pair on the set of the show — several with the other perennially-hilarious third leg of their comedy gold stool, Steve Martin — to celebrate the premiere of the new Lawrence Kasdan-directed documentary about Short, 76, Marty, Life Is Short.

“This man who doesn’t have social media is truly outstandingly witty, smart and has given the most wonderful attributes to our world of comedy,” Gomez wrote in an Instagram post that opened with a snap of her ticket to last night’s first look at the film that will screen on Netflix starting on Tuesday (May 12).

“Some may not know much that follow me. But Martin Short is nothing short of a legend,” she added. “His outlook on life is simply joyful. I cried, laughed and empathized his entire story Check it out on @netflix now please. Worth every minute. 🎬📽️🥲 -thank you Marty for your inspiring and tremendous heart that makes me forever happy.”

The rest of the reel featured snaps of Gomez with Short at the Tonight Show, holding hands and staring into each other’s eyes on the premiere’s red carpet, as well as a sweet moment on set and one where they share a group hug with Martin. According to Deadline, in addition to Gomez, Wednesday’s premiere was attended by Kate Hudson, Eugene Levy, Billy Crystal, director Kasdan, Paul Shaffer, Netflix boss Ted Sarandos Andrea Martin and Gomez’s husband, music producer Benny Blanco, among others. The film exploring Short’s life and career on and off screen features appearances from Levy, the late Catherine O’Hara, comedian John Mulaney, Tom Hanks and Martin’s longtime friend and stand-up touring partner, Martin.

Also on hand, according to People, were Short’s two sons, Oliver, 40, and Henry, 36, with the family making their first public appearance together since the death by suicide of Short’s daughter Katherine in February.

In October, Only Murders in the Building was renewed for a sixth, as yet unscheduled, season slated to drop sometime this year.
