Ray Mendoza Sets ‘Blood On the Promontory’ As Next Directorial Effort

EXCLUSIVE: Following his breakout with Warfare, which he and Alex Garland wrote and directed for A24, Ray Mendoza has found his next feature project in Blood On the Promontory, a Western drama he’s set to direct from a script by Evan Cooper.

Blood On the Promontory finds five convicts shackled together by foot as they try to escape through the mountains following a violent train robbery.

Nina Yang Bongiovi, Paul Hadad, Glenn Kleczkowski, and Mark Gillard are producing, with Danny Peykoff exec producing, and Peykoff’s Big Newport Studios as the production company. WME Independent is handling sales.

A former Navy SEAL turned award-winning filmmaker, Mendoza and Garland’s Warfare is a critically acclaimed action drama inspired by the former’s combat experiences during his deployment to Iraq. Mendoza came to filmmaking after deploying multiple times in service of the United States as a Navy SEAL, with his military background shaping not only his filmmaking aesthetic, but also his commitment to telling human-forward stories rooted in truth, adversity, and honor.

On the episodic side, Mendoza has worked on The Terminal List: Dark Wolf for Prime Video. He is represented by Underground and WME.

Cooper is repped by Range Media Partners and WME.
