Why would Nick Lachey ever admit this out loud?!?
We suppose he must have felt pretty innocent to share this information, so that’s a good sign! But maybe not a healthy sign about the music industry in general…
You see, the 52-year-old singer is in an upcoming Investigation Discovery documentary, Boy Band Confidential, which features other big names in the music industry discussing the ups and downs of life in a boy band during the ’90s. Watch the trailer for the docuseries, produced by *NSYNC‘s very own Joey Fatone, (below) if you haven’t seen it:

For his part, Nick looked back on the early days of working with his brother Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons, and Justin Jeffre in 98 Degrees. They signed with Motown Records in 1997. And when it came time for the group to tour two years later, the label made sure the four of them, then between the ages of 21 and 24, stayed out of trouble with younger fans. How? Nick claimed in the documentary that someone at Motown Records actually gave them a book listing the age-of-consent laws for each state to keep on their tour bus! OMG! He said:
“This is going to sound super shady, but when we first went out, I remember our first tour, someone at the label gave us a book, and it was the age of consent in every state in the country. And, like, we kept that book on the tour bus.”
Umm, yeah… What does that say about the guys if someone at the label thought they needed an entire manual on the laws of age of consent? Or maybe it had nothing to do with their specific behavior behind the scenes, and the label just did it after concerning experiences with other artists? Who knows! But the confession is definitely eyebrow-raising! Nick went on to explain that the book was only supposed to keep them safe:
“Unfortunately, there were people out there looking to tear you down.”
Back in November 2024, Jeff admitted their adoring fans would cross the lines at times, especially when it came to them sneaking into places they shouldn’t. He said in another documentary, Larger than Life: Reign of the Boybands:
“Fans would sneak on our tour bus, and we wouldn’t even know they were there until the next city. We ordered room service, and they were in the room service cart and popped out. Some things are a little too crazy to talk about.”
Apparently! Boy Band Confidential premieres on April 13. Will you be watching? And what are your reactions to Nick’s claim, Perezcious readers? Tell us in the comments (below)!
