EXCLUSIVE: Nathan Xia has signed with M88 for representation.
Xia is a Chinese American actor, filmmaker, and alternative artist from San Diego, California. “He finds inspiration in the misunderstood and uses his art to tackle themes of mental health, coming-of-age, and the Asian American experience through an emotionally vibrant and comedic personal lens,” touts the agency.
His short film, Adam’s Song (2023), screened at a multitude of festivals and won awards at the Nashville Film Festival and the Ouray International Film Festival before being acquired for online distribution by Wong Fu Productions, NextShark, and FilmShortage, and broadcast TV distribution by PBS.
With his relationship with his father fracturing, Adam’s music career and personal life are at a crisis point in Adam’s Song. The sudden death of his uncle tests the family as they try to pull together a traditional Chinese funeral in rural Texas, despite the car fires, fist fights, honky tonk whiskey shots, and dysfunctional self-inflicted bullshit along the way.
Xia is now developing the title into a feature film with Benjamin Wiessner of Vanishing Angle and plans to shoot this fall.
“Nathan is a wildly talented and perceptive filmmaker ready for a major breakout. I can’t wait for audiences around the world to laugh and cry and walk away inspired when they witness Adam’s Song,” shared Weissner.
He followed up Adam’s Song with Ayo, Check Up!, a basketball mental-health dramedy. The film premiered at Lebron James’ Uninterrupted Film Festival and was distributed online by Omeleto, NextShark, and NBA legend Jeremy Lin. His latest film, Flavor of the Month, is currently on its festival run and has played festivals like the Hawaii International Film Festival, the HollyShorts Film Festival, and the Bend Film Festival.
As an actor, Xia has appeared in Apple TV’s Loot, as well as in film and TV projects for Matty Matheson & Ricky Staffieri, Jim Cummings, and Danny Madden. Up next, he has been cast in an undisclosed Netflix series, a role that has yet to be announced.
Xia will continue to be repped by Mike Baldridge at Momentum Talent Agency.
