EXCLUSIVE: Michael Waldron, co-creator, executive producer and showrunner of Chad Powers, has renewed his overall deal with 20th Television, the studio behind the Hulu comedy starring Glen Powell.
Under the new pact, Waldron will continue to write, develop, direct and produce series for linear networks and streamers, with an emphasis on platforms across Disney Entertainment Television, via Anomaly Pictures, his company with producing partner Adam Fasullo.
Chad Powers, which Waldron co-created and executive produces with Powell, recently wrapped production on Season 2. In addition to serving as showrunner, Waldron is directing four of the six episodes, including the season premiere and finale.
“Michael Waldron brings a creative tenacity to every project he’s involved with that’s truly contagious,” said Karey Burke, president of 20th Television. “His unique voice and passion permeate all of his work, and he elevates everyone around him. We couldn’t be happier that he will continue to call Disney and 20th Television his creative home for the years to come.”
Waldron teased the return of Chad Powers whose first season earned Powell a Golden Globe nomination.
“I’m proud to continue my partnership with the home team at Disney. Dana [Walden], Craig [Erwich], and Karey are great collaborators who take chances on wild ideas,” he said. “Speaking of which, I’d like to use this opportunity to remind you to tune into Chad Powers Season 2, coming to Hulu this Fall!”
Waldron, who is in early development on several projects for DET platforms, including Hulu, Disney+ and FX, has a long history at Disney. Before Chad Powers, he served as creator, head writer and exec producer of Disney+’s Loki and wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Outside of Disney, Waldron was a writer/producer on Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, sharing in the series’ Outstanding Animated Program Emmy win in 2020. He also created and executive produced the Starz wrestling drama series Heels, starring Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig, which found a new life on Netflix.
Waldron and Fasullo launched film and TV production company Anomaly Pictures in 2023 with the ethos that popcorn entertainment can also be prestige entertainment. He is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and attorney Michael Shenkman at Shenkman Law.
