Meryl Streep Takes Credit For Lady Gaga’s ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Cameo

As Meryl Streep revisits Miranda Priestley 20 years later in The Devil Wears Prada 2, she brought a friend along for the ride.

Following news of Lady Gaga‘s cameo in the sequel, which is now playing in theaters, the 3x Oscar winner revealed that she was responsible for the Mayhem artist’s appearance in the David Frankel-helmed film, for which she also provided some songs on the soundtrack.

“That turned out well,” Streep recounted on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “It was written there would be a pop star that would sing live on a runway in Milan. We were going to have this big show there. I thought, well why don’t we get Gaga, cause she’s so great, and she loves fashion, and… I had her number.

“I gave her a ring. I love this girl, I love her so much. She is so game. She just said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Well, I haven’t asked you what I’m going to ask you.’ She said, ‘Anything. What do you want?’”

Streep added, “This was a big get for us. We were really, really thrilled, because she’s so spectacular. She’s written three songs for us. She’s a great actress, a little too good in the scene I had with her.”

Gaga filmed her cameo during Milan Fashion Week, also starring in the music video for ‘Runway‘, her collab with Doechii for the soundtrack. She’s since debuted the tracks ‘Shape of a Woman’ and ‘Glamorous Life’.

In addition to Streep’s Runway editor Miranda Priestley, The Devil Wears Prada 2 sees the fashionable return of Anne Hathaway’s Andi, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling.

Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman also reprise their roles from the original 2006 Aline Brosh McKenna-penned film, with Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Pauline Chalamet, Rachel Bloom, Patrick Brammall, Conrad Ricamora and Lady Gaga also joining the cast.
