Exclusive | Mel B recalls shocking live TV moment with the Spice Girls that would ‘never be allowed’ today

Mel B revealed a horrifying moment while doing a live interview with the Spice Girls during her first pregnancy.

Page Six spoke to the singer at an event for Revive Collagen in New York City Tuesday, when she revealed that during her pregnancy with her eldest daughter, Phoenix, she was once asked to weigh herself on the spot.

“I mean, I remember when I was pregnant at 23 that I did an interview, a live interview, and the host was like, ‘Can I weigh you, how much you weigh?’” Mel, the global ambassador for Revive Collagen, shared with us. “That would never be allowed in this day and age, you know?”

“I was like, ‘I don’t care … how much I weigh. I’ve got a baby growing inside me,’” she continued. “I’m not very precious, but that wouldn’t happen in this day and age.”

When asked about a potential Spice Girls doc that would include such moments, Mel said she wasn’t opposed, but it would have to be “honest and raw.”

“But I have nothing, like, horrendous or bad,” she acknowledged of her time in the beloved girl group which also includes Victoria Beckham, Geri Hailliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel C. “I had an absolute blast.”

“Me being part of Spice Girls, I loved every single moment of it,” she added. “There’s not a day where it felt like a drag or a chore, and even if there were things that we came up against — whether it be sexism or whatever — we kind of trampled on that as a group together that supported each other.”

The singer, 50, told us she’s always been “very, very honest” and straight to the point.

“I just speak my mind and I speak how I feel,” she shared. “You know, whether that be about mixed race women or Black women embracing their hair texture and wearing their hair out, about having that voice against abuse and knowing how to get out of that relationship and do it safely.”

‘”Just being the best that you can be without beating yourself up so much about just embracing who you are, curves, warts and all.”

Mel is mom to daughters Phoenix, 27, Angel Iris, 19, and Madison, 14. She shares Phoenix with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar, while she shares Angel Iris with ex Eddie Murphy, and Madison with ex-husband Stephen Belafonte.

When Page Six spoke to Mel last month, she revealed where she stands on a Spice Girls tour after a report that the group’s 30th-anniversary reunion was canceled.

“In a perfect world, we’d already be on tour right now, touring the whole entire world,” she told us.

“I’m always the one going, ‘Yes, we’re going on tour,’” she added. “I would love to go on tour. I would love to do music, but it isn’t happening.”
