Although John Wick‘s journey would appear to be over, some old assassin pals still have some work to do.
Donnie Yen, who reprises his role as blind assassin Caine in a standalone Lionsgate movie that he’s directing, announced that the film is in production as he celebrated the first day of filming on Saturday.
“Here we go…” wrote Yen on Instagram with a photo of the movie’s slate.
Making his franchise debut in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), Yen’s Caine is a blind former High Table assassin who is forced out of retirement on assignment to kill Wick, in order to protect his daughter’s safety.
After the franchise crossed the $1B mark with the release of John Wick: Chapter 4, Caine’s standalone film was announced in 2024, with Yen also coming on board as director last year.
Caine’s movie comes after Ana de Armas starred in last year’s Ballerina, the first non-Wick standalone title in the franchise, about a young Ruska Roma assassin seeking vengeance for her father.
In addition to a prequel anime film in development, the sequel series John Wick: Under the High Table is in the works.
