Paramount has unveiled the first trailer for Jackass: Best and Last, the fifth and final installment in its slapstick stunt comedy film series, releasing June 26.
Franchise architect and cast member Johnny Knoxville was on hand to tout the film in Las Vegas, unveiling gnarly new in-room-only footage.
Originating with the MTV series Jackass, created by Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze, which ran from 2000-2001, the Jackass franchise has stood since then as one of the most durable and unlikely theatrical comedy brands in recent memory. Informing what the films would become, the show was built around a collective of performers including Knoxville, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Dave England, Wee Man, Preston Lacy, Bam Margera and the late Ryan Dunn, who brought their DIY, skate-punk sensibility to a series of increasingly ambitious and dangerous stunts.
In the new footage the gang invites us to “Our last and best Jackass film ever” and “to the first day or our last film.” How are are you feeling” the cast asks each other. “I don’t know, I’m not in touch with my emotions says Chris. There’s a new cast member, a robot named Larry, preparing to perform arobotic prostate exam. That’s not a finger, it’s a claw! There are goats. An firey escape room.
Jackass made its way to theaters for the first time with 2002’s Jackass: The Movie, which grossed over $79 million worldwide on a modest budget. Subsequent entries have included Jackass Number Two (2006), Jackass 3D (2010), and most recently, Jackass Forever (2022), which introduced a new generation of stunt performers and grossed over $80 million globally. Also spawning spin-off projects like Bad Grandpa, the franchise has brought in over $500M worldwide to date, all told.
Cast members returning for the final installment included Steve-O, Pontius, England, Wee Man (Jason Acuña), and Preston Lacy. Others appearing include Ehren McGhehey, Poopies (Sean McInerney), Zach Holmes, Jasper, Dark Shark (Compston Wilson), and Rachel Wolfson.
Hailing from Paramount and MTV Entertainment Studios, in association with Domain Entertainment, Jackass: Best and Last is directed by Tremaine, who produced alongside Jonze and Knoxville. Exec producers included Shanna Newton, Greg Iguchi, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary.
