House of the Dragon‘s Freddie Fox will make his musical theater debut next month in the West End‘s High Society revival. Costars will include Helen George (Call the Midwife), Felicity Kendal (The Good Life) and Julian Ovenden (Downton Abbey, Bridgerton), among others.
The musical opens May 19 at the Barbican Theatre for a limited eight-week season, followed by a 20-week UK & Ireland tour.
The final casting for the Cole Porter musical was announced today.
Fox, who plays Dragon‘s Ser Gwayne Hightower and whose TV credits also include Slow Horses, will portray High Society‘s “charismatic and unpredictable” reporter Mike Connor (that was Frank Sinatra in the 1956 film version).
“I couldn’t be more excited to be making my musical theatre debut in High Society at the Barbican Theatre,” said Fox, whose parents are the actors Edward Fox and Joanna David. “It’s the realization of a boyhood dream for me, and I can’t wait to dive into this world, the music and the sheer joy of Cole Porter.”
Although High Society will mark Fox’s musical theater debut, he has appeared in numerous non-musical theatrical productions.
The revival’s cast also includes Carly Mercedes Dyer and Nigel Lindsay.
Ovenden, who will play Dexter Haven, has appeared on TV in The Crown, Downton Abbey and Bridgerton. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to musical theater,” he said in a statement. “There’s nothing quite like the energy of a live audience and this show is pure delight from start to finish.”
