‘Fortnite’ to refund players for D4vd collab

Fortnite has confirmed it will refund players who bought their collaboration with D4vd after the musician was charged with the murder of a 14-year-old girl.

D4vd started making original music back in 2021 to soundtrack his own Fortnite montage videos. In 2025, he teamed up with Epic Games to release the first official Fortnite anthem ‘Locked & Loaded’ while a string of D4vd-inspired cosmetics were also added to the Fortnite store.

Earlier this year, D4vd (real name David Anthony Burke) was named as the target of a grand jury investigation into the apparent murder of 14-year-old girl Celeste Rivas Hernandez after her remains had been found severely decomposed in the boot of a Tesla registered to Burke last September. Last week, he was charged with her murder.

Since then, his collaborations with Laufey, Damiano David, Kali Uchis and more have been removed from online streaming platforms and D4vd has also been dropped by his label Interscope.

Fortnite has now confirmed players can get a refund for any money they’ve spent on D4vd cosmetics.

“We hear the concerns. We have a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time,” explained the official Fortnite account. “The first one will be available on Tuesday April 28, when anyone who purchased one of these items will be able to get an immediate self-service refund. And, right now, players who request refunds for D4vd cosmetics via player support can be refunded.”

Streaming sites such as Spotify and Apple Music are also facing calls to remove D4vd’s music from their platforms, with music advocacy group Industry Blackout launching a petition.

“The music industry has a responsibility that goes beyond commerce. When an artist has been charged with the sexual abuse and murder of a minor, a child who was drawn into his orbit through his music and public persona, continuing to stream, promote, and profit from his catalogue is a choice. It is not a neutral one,” the group explained.

Last week, the court heard that investigators have obtained access to Burke’s iCloud account, which they claimed “contains a significant amount of child pornography”.

Burke has been charged with first-degree murder, as well as murder for “financial gain” and murder of a witness to an investigation. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held without bail. If found guilty, he could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
