Cam Newton thinks Mike Vrabel is getting let off the hook WAY too easily!
As we’ve been following, the head coach for the New England Patriots has been making waves after he was exposed for having an alleged affair with NFL reporter Dianna Russini. Photos of them getting too cozy date all the way back to 2020! Seriously… WTF!
And to make matters worse, Mike’s been married since 1999, and Dianna was reportedly just months away from tying the knot to her now-husband when those 2020 pics were snapped. This has become one of the biggest affair scandals we’ve seen in a looooong time — but unlike others, the coach isn’t facing many consequences for his actions!

Amid an internal investigation, the journalist decided to resign from her role at the The Athletic earlier this month in an effort to prevent the controversy from defining her career. While Mike’s taking time to focus on his family and attend counseling — causing him to step away temporarily amid the NFL Draft — so far, the Patriots have stood by him. Aside from the media crisis he’s in, he’s facing no career fallout, and a former Patriots star has a BIG problem with that!
During Wednesday’s episode of his 4th&1 podcast, former Patriots quarterback Cam Newton BLASTED Mike for his recent press conference, complaining:
“It wasn’t nothing even exposed! We didn’t find nothing out! [He said], ‘Yeah, I just didn’t want to be a distraction.’ Ha! Captain obvious here. Hey, coach, it’s already been a distraction!”
Cam then called Mike and the team out on the strategic timing of the comments, saying:
“The timeliness of it, though, was extremely strategic. It’s Tuesday. What’s going to be an even bigger story by the week’s end? The draft! Hello!”
Ultimately, the athlete is mostly just frustrated by the obvious double standard at play here, pointing out:
“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, dogs and cats… somebody gotta speak for the players.”
Already obsessed! He continued:
“Because if this was a player, I’m having a hard time understanding if they’d get that same grace. Hey, if you’re a player, it might not be disciplinary situations from the team, but let Patrick Mahomes find out that he had an infidelity issue [and see what happens]! Let that be the situation.”
Cam explained:
“I’m having a hard time understanding this. I love Mike Vrabel; do not get that twisted or misconstrued. But sometimes we shift the focus for certain people. … Vrabel got grace a player would never get!”
He’s probably not wrong. He even pointed out many other coaches have lost their jobs after infidelity issues, such as Urban Meyer and Sherrone Moore, among others. He even referenced the Coldplay couple that got absolutely ripped apart online, and both had to step away from their jobs, after their viral jumbotron moment! Simply put, he declared:
“We ain’t holding coaches to the same standard.”
