Ellen DeGeneres Shares Rare Peek Inside Her Stunning English Estate as She Deals with Nosy Visitors

NEED TO KNOW

  • Ellen DeGeneres posted a rare look inside her U.K. home, which she shares with wife Portia de Rossi
  • The clips show off the property’s modern architecture and large glass windows
  • Also inside are the couple’s sheep, which they purchased to help mow the lawn

Ellen DeGeneres just shared a look inside her multimillion dollar home in the English countryside — along with some unexpected house guests.

On Monday, June 16, the former talk show host, 67, posted a video on Instagram from inside her new U.K. estate. In the clips, a group of sheep find their way from the surrounding farmland into an interior living space that is clearly intended for humans.

“Our sheep keep coming inside,” DeGeneres wrote in the caption. “To be fair, we do have a piece of furniture that looks like a sheep, but that one doesn’t try to eat our rugs.”

In the first of two clips, four sheep enter via a set of large, wide-open folding glass doors. One of the furry creatures walks up to Kid, the comedian’s dog, who is startled enough to leave his fluffy white bed.

“They’re coming inside?” Portia de Rossi, DeGeneres’ wife, can be heard asking in the background.

“Yeah, they’re inside,” the Finding Dory star responds, seemingly unconcerned.

In the second clip, one sheep explores a different inside portion of the property while another wanders just outside the large glass panes. In the background, there is another fluffy piece of furniture that looks like a wooly sheep. After giggling at the situation, de Rossi, 52, herds the visitor out the door.

The new videos offers a rare glimpse inside DeGeneres and de Rossi’s U.K. home. The modern architecture is a stark contrast to the limestone manors commonly found in the Cotswolds region.

In November, a source told PEOPLE the couple had relocated to the rural area from their California home base after they were spotted at a local pub.

“Ellen was in England house hunting in the beginning of October. She ended up finding a house that she loved and purchased it shortly after,” the source told PEOPLE.

The community is a popular spot for U.K. celebrities to own real estate: Famous Brits like the Beckhams, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Hurley and former British Prime Minister David Cameron all own homes nearby.

Since the move, DeGeneres has shared a variety of photos and videos from her property. In April, she shared a sweet photo of de Rossi taking her own picture of a double rainbow amongst dark storm clouds. In the caption she wrote, “[Three] things that make me happy: My Wife, A Rainbow and my wife taking a photograph of a Rainbow.”

Most of what she’s shared to followers so far comes from the great outdoors. Last month, she updated fans about the challenges of mowing a massive lawn. On May 28, she posted her first video of her sheep writing, “Turns out my lawn mowing skills are not great. So…..sheep.”

Two days later, on May 30, however, DeGeneres posted a video of the sheep escaping their designated field. They made their way into the barn and also inside the home. While inside “Alice,” a black sheep, prances past the couple’s rustic furniture including a black leather couch.

“We got sheep to maintain the grass, but they keep escaping,” DeGeneres wrote in the caption. “I’m not sure if this is easier than using the lawnmower.”

DeGeneres and de Rossi are well-known collectors of multimillion-dollar homes and have been selling several of their U.S. properties in recent months.

In May 2024, PEOPLE reported DeGeneres was selling her Montecito, Calif. home for $32 million after restoring it. Later in the year, a California real estate insider shared that the couple also sold their Carpinteria estate for $96 million.

The comedian’s move to England comes after toxic workplace accusations made against her in 202, after which she has largely retreated from the public eye. The Ellen DeGeneres Show aired its final episode in May 2022 after 19 seasons on air. In 2024, she said a new Netflix special, Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, would be her last performance as a comedian.
