EXCLUSIVE: Elizabeth Cullen (Elvis) and newcomer Sofia Rose are set to lead The Neverending Pillow Fort, a new animated feature based on a children’s novel by Will Taylor, for which Sola Media is launching international sales at Cannes.
Others in the cast include David Tennant (Doctor Who), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), Teresa Palmer (A Discovery of Witches), and Marsai Martin (Black-ish).
Currently in production in Australia, under the direction of BAFTA nominee Allison Brownmoore (The Amazing Adventures of Awesome), The Neverending Pillow Fort follows best friends Maggie (Cullen) and Abby (Rose), whose lifelong bond, built on imaginative pillow fort adventures, is tested when Abby returns from camp eager to embrace the real world and new friendships. When their fort reveals a magical ability to transport them to worlds across the globe, the girls embark on a whirlwind adventure that brings them closer again. But as they journey through strange and wondrous places, Maggie must confront the reality that growing up may mean learning to let things change.
Adapted for the screen by Dominic Morris and Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges, The Neverending Pillow Fort is produced by Crayola Studios, Alceon Entertainment Partners, Eclectik Vision, MIMO Studios and Like A Photon Creative. Crayola Studios serves as both producer and financier, with production support provided by Screen Queensland’s Post Digital and Visual rebate incentive.
Kristen Souvlis and Nadine Bates produced for Like a Photon Creative, alongside Cyma Zarghami and Madeira Ginley for MIMO Studios, with Rick Glankler and Kerry Crowley exec producing for Crayola Studios.
The project reunites Sola Media with Like A Photon Creative and MIMO Studios following their work together on The Pout-Pout Fish, an animated feature starring Nick Offerman, Nina Oyama, Miranda Otto and more that released in the U.S. in March.
“Building on our successful collaboration with Like A Photon Creative and MIMO Studios for The Pout-Pout Fish, we are excited to partner again on this new project,” said Sola Media’s Managing Director, Solveig Langeland. “With the support of the beloved Crayola brand, we are convinced Maggie and Abbie will not only travel to all pillow forts all around the world but also connect kids and families that will be watching the film in theatres worldwide.”
