Exclusive | Christine Taylor reveals why husband Ben Stiller skipped the Knicks for the Met Gala

Christine Taylor said her husband, Ben Stiller, was being a considerate and polite pal when he ditched the Knicks playoff game on Monday night for the Met Gala.

“We were invited by a friend, so this was an obligation we had committed to in January,” the “Brady Bunch Movie” star, 54, told Page Six at the Cinema Society screening of “Influenced” earlier this week. “And, you never know what night [a playoff game] is going to fall on, and he was holding true to showing up for friends.”

“It really was for these dear friends who invited us.”

However, that’s not to say the Knicks weren’t on the couple’s minds at the swanky shindig.

“Here’s what was great,” Taylor explained. “He could wear his Knicks orange, I happened to be wearing blue and [The Knicks trounced the 76ers, 137-98], so once we learned what the score was, we could relax and enjoy the night.”

Stiller also addressed the “Sophie’s Choice” decision on the red carpet.

“Right now, I wish I was in Madison Square Garden,” Stiller admitted to USA Today. “But it’s beautiful to be here, too.”

“If you can’t be at Madison Square Garden watching the Knicks … this is a great second choice,” Stiller added. “This is an incredible event supporting the Costume Institute and the arts in New York. And we’ve been here a couple of times.”

The “Meet the Fockers” star was also spotted mouthing “Knicks in six” as he made his way down the carpet.

Stiller has been a regular presence at Knicks games, often sitting beside another ardent fan, Timothée Chalamet, who attended Monday’s game, while his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, was at the Met Gala.

Although Stiller didn’t get to cheer on his beloved team, it sounds like he had a pretty swell time at the Met.

“One of the highlights was during the cocktail hour, we had a ten-minute chat with Stevie Nicks, who was in her top hat,” Taylor gushed, adding that Nicks had just watched “There’s Something About Mary,” starring Stiller.

“So she really wanted to talk to him about that,” she laughingly noted, “how hilarious she thought it was, so he was really honored.”

Meanwhile, Taylor can be seen in “Influenced,” playing a spoiled Upper East Side lady.

“I come from Allentown, Pennsylvania,” she shared, “so it’s as far as from what I have ever known as real life,” but enthusiastically said yes to the part because she’s a huge fan of co-writer and star Jill Kargman.

She also recently had lunch with her on-screen doppleganger, Maureen McCormick, 69, who played the original Marcia Brady in the sitcom, while Taylor took on the role in the movie franchise.

When Page Six gushed over her performance, Taylor was thrilled.

“As a life-long Brady fan, it was so important to me to study and really capture everything Maureen McCormick did so brilliantly on the show, iconicly,” she revealed, adding that, “I literally just texted her on the way here.”

“We’re buddies now. To me, it’s the greatest thing, thirty years later and a lifetime of loving her, I can call her a friend.”
