Paapa Essiedu Pokes Fun At ‘Harry Potter’ Co-Star Nick Frost As They Present BAFTA TV Award

Two of the stars of the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series took to the stage this afternoon at the BAFTA TV Awards.

Paapa Essiedu, who is playing Severus Snape, and Nick Frost, who is Rubeus Hagrid, presented the award for Supporting Actress to Adolescence star Christine Tremarco but couldn’t resist a bit of fun as they introduced the nominees.

Essiedu decided that he would continue throughout the introduction to refer to Frost as “Hagrid” rather than by his real name.

“Some truly exceptional performances, let’s take a look at the nominees Hagrid,” he said as he turned to his co-star.

“My name is Nick,” the Hot Fuzz comic actor replied, “I sat next to you at the friggin’ readthrough.”

Essiedu and Frost were making a rare on-stage appearance as two stars from one of the biggest upcoming shows to hit the small screen, which airs at Christmas time.

In Harry Potter, they will be joined by the likes of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer and Bel Powley, along with a young cast led by a trio of newcomers. The show was last week recommissioned for a second season before the first airs. Essiedu has previously said he faced a number of racist death threats since joining the franchise.

Essiedu and Frost were speaking at the BAFTA TV Awards, which we are following live. The first two winners were Owen Cooper and Christine Tremarco from Adolescence.
