The BAFTA TV Awards are underway Sunday afternoon at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
The grandest night in British TV will unfold over the next three hours as some of the biggest stars around the world including Colin Firth, Aimee Lou Wood, Taron Egerton and Matt Smith go head-to-head.
Netflix’s Adolescence dominates the nominations and has 11 including five for its acting talent – Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Owen Cooper, Christine Tremarco, and Erin Doherty – along with being nommed in the coveted Limited Drama category. In that one it faces competition from the BBC’s What it Feels Like For a Girl, ITV’s I Fought the Law and Channel 4’s Trespasses.
Doherty and Wood are both nommed in two different categories, the former for Disney+’s A Thousand Blows, which has numerous nominations. Firth, Smith and Egerton face off in a crowded Leading Actor category. Elsewhere, Steve Coogan is up for Actor in a Comedy in a crowded field, while the BBC’s top-rated show of the year, The Celebrity Traitors, is up for five.
The BAFTA Craft Awards took place two weeks back, with Adolescence grabbing two for director and sound. The Netflix series, which was created by Graham and Jack Thorne, could therefore be well on its way to a record-breaking BAFTA feat come later tonight.
Hosted by Greg Davies, the awards represent BAFTA and the BBC’s first big test since the Film Awards, when tourette’s campaigner John Davidson involuntarily yelled a racial slur at the stars of Sinners. We reported on Friday about how the BBC has been nervously prepping for the big day.
Deadline will be covering the event and updating the winners list live. Below is this year’s winner’s list, which we are updating live.
