EXCLUSIVE: We have the first official clip from Low Expectations, the buzzy Norwegian title set to debut in this year’s Directors’ Fortnight competition at Cannes. Check out the clip above.
The film stars the indie Norwegian musician Marie Ulven, best known worldwide under her stage name Girl in Red, alongside Anders Danielsen Lie (The Worst Person in the World). The cast also includes Tone Mostraum, Embla Berntsen, and Snorre Kind Monsson.
The film is written and directed by Eivind Landsvik in his feature debut. The official synopsis reads: “After years of hard work in the studio, touring, and partying, Maja (29) collapses. The acclaimed artist is forced to put everything on hold. Depressed and broke, she has moved back home with her mother and works part-time at a local high school. Maja tries to distance herself from her chaotic past, observing life from the sidelines rather than participating.”
Low Expectations was produced by Lotte Sandbu and Synnøve Hørsdal for Maipo Film (Norway) alongside Snowglobe (Denmark). The Norwegian distributor is Nordisk Film Distribusjon, while international sales are being handled by the French sales company Salaud Morisset. The film will be released in Norwegian cinemas on 11 September.
