EXCLUSIVE: Variance Films has boarded The Cycle Of Love, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Orlando von Einsiedel (Virunga), for theatrical distribution in the U.S. this August.
Exec-produced by Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, the film charts the “true story of PK, a 23-year-old street artist from Delhi who sets off with a handful of paintbrushes and a second-hand bicycle on a 6,000-mile journey across Europe and Asia to find Lotta, the woman who captured his heart during her visit to India. Convinced their meeting was fate, reinforced by an astrologer’s prophecy that uncannily matched Lotta’s description, PK embarks on a leap of faith that becomes a journey of love, identity and transformation.”
Dogwoof will release in the UK and Ireland in September and has struck international deals with Madman in Australia & New Zealand; Filmwelt in Germany & Austria; Praesens in Switzerland; Filmin in Spain & Portugal; and Bantam in Benelux. The UK sales and distribution outfit has added a Cannes market screening to boot.
For U.S. distribution, the deal was brokered between Variance’s Marchetti and Ryan Harrington on behalf of BD4.
Pic heralds from Grain Media, Purple Pebble Pictures, Kalabati Pictures, BD4, AMPL and Artemis Rising. Think-Film – which worked on the campaigns for Oscar winning films such as Navalny and Oscar nominated films including The Voice of Hind Rajab, and Black Box Diaries — has also joined the team in developing an impact campaign to launch with the theatrical release. The movie originally debuted at last Telluride.
Variance Films President / Founder Dylan Marchetti said: “Orlando has crafted something special here, and we fell hard for The Cycle Of Love about ten minutes into the film. It’s beautiful, warm, and one of those rare films where you catch yourself smiling throughout. We think audiences will agree, and can’t wait to share it with them this summer.”
Think-Film added: “We live in a world which perpetuates the idea that love is only about intimate relationships, but what Orlando has masterfully crafted through his telling of PK and Lotta’s true story, is an inspirational tale of how kinship can lead you on the greatest adventure of all and fulfill a part of yourself you never knew you needed. I can’t remember the last time I cried tears of joy – this film is a must see!”
