Betsey Johnson loves this ‘perfect’ red lip so much, she sleeps in it

In a business known for passing trends, Betsey Johnson has achieved enduring success.

The fashion designer opened her first NYC boutique in 1969, and nearly six decades later, her vintage slip dresses and flouncy frocks have become a hot commodity among modern style stars like Olivia Rodrigo, Julia Fox and Margaret Qualley.

But Johnson, 83, might be as famous for her signature “rock ‘n’ roll” beauty look as she is for her babydoll dresses.

“I only wear makeup when someone else does it; otherwise it’s just strip lashes, mascara, and a red lip,” Johnson told Page Six Style.

Below, shop the staple products she and her makeup artist, Kristin Gallegos, always have on hand to create her go-to glam — plus, the dress she’s been wearing “nonstop” lately.

“Sharp, black, a little rock ’n’ roll. Sometimes I’ll even add little dots on my lower line where lashes would go if I’m between appointments.”

“The perfect red. Always. I sleep in this. There are husbands of mine who never saw me without a red lip — and they never will!”

“A strong red, always. We sometimes fight about how big we want them lined. It’s a fine balance!”

“I’ve been wearing this nonstop. I thought only I would wear it, so I was truly shocked when I heard it became a bestseller. It’s made up of my little doodles — and now it’s become a whole collection.”
