Pilot Buzz 2026: CBS In Final Stretch Ahead Of Schedule Reveal

While the other broadcast networks are still going through renewals of their strongest comedies and dramas, CBS already has wrapped all of its scripted renewals and cancellations. The last decision left to make as CBS executives put together the 2026-27 schedule is which of the network’s two pilots, Eternally Yours and The Tillbrooks, will get a spot on it.

It may come down to the wire as CBS is slated to unveil its 2026-27 lineup next Wednesday, April 15. Both the single-camera Eternally Yours, starring Ed Weeks & Allegra Edwards, and multi-camera The Tillbrooks, starring Kate Walsh and Rhys Darby, have been delivered to the network and have been undergoing testing. Those results are not yet in, I hear, and the pilots are also yet to go through an old pilot season tradition, network screenings, expected later this week.

Heading into that, both Eternally Yours and The Tillbrooks are looking good, with positive early buzz at the network, I hear. The pilots’ solid standing was indirectly confirmed when CBS 10 days ago canceled its bubble comedy series DMV.

On paper, CBS should be able to accomodate both Eternally Yours, a vampire comedy from Ghosts showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, and The Tillbrooks, a historical spin on the classic multi-cam family sitcom from Tara Hernandez. That is because CBS will have 2 half-hour vacancies next season with both single-camera freshman DMV and multi-camera vetetran The Neighborhood ending their runs.

The CBS Studios-produced Eternally Yours has been envisioned as a companion to Ghosts from the get-go. In addition to the common supernatural theme, both are filming in the same Montreal location under the same showrunners, making them very compatible.

The Tillbrooks, from Warner Bros. TV, could be paired with CBS’ existing multi-camera comedy from WBTV, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

Still, this will be both a creative and a business decision, with the ultimate call made on a corporate level. CBS has had a strong crop of new dramas this season — all offshoots of well known franchises — Boston Blue, Marshals, Sheriff Country and CIA, all of which have been renewed for next season. With only one drama cancellation, sophomore Watson, and two new one-hours joining next season, Cupertino and Einstein, CBS may have to look for savings on the comedy side to make room for the drama slate expansion.

If that happens, it would be the first time in a long time — or ever — that CBS has had fewer than 4 comedy series on the air in one season.

The situation this year mirrors CBS’ dilemma last spring when the network again had two comedy pilot contenders, a single-cam one from CBS Studios, DMV, and a multi-cam one from WBTV, Zarna. CBS went with the CBS Studios single-camera pilot which, if pressed to pick one, the network will likely do again given Eternally Yours‘ pedigree.

As Deadline has noted, there is a new twist on the business side of the decision making. While one of the pilots was wholly owned while the other was coming from an outside studio last year, that no longer is the case this year, with CBS Studios and Warner Bros. TV poised to become corporate siblings following Paramount’s pending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.
