Savannah Guthrie is officially heading back to the “Today” show … after stepping away for nearly two months amid her mother’s disappearance.
Guthrie will return to the anchor desk April 6 … with Hoda Kotb making the announcement Friday morning, revealing Savannah will be back alongside Craig Melvin.
Craig added the show can’t wait to welcome her back with open arms … and in the latest installment of her interview with Hoda — released Friday — Savannah admitted it’s been hard to imagine returning to that space, but agrees the show is part of her “purpose.”
The return marks a major moment for Guthrie … since her mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing Feb. 1, she’s been seen in Arizona with her family, focused on the search — and recently made her way back to NYC.
Prior to the big announcement … “Today” aired more of Hoda’s sit-down with Savannah, where she reflected on a recent visit back to the set — saying, “I just love this beautiful place that I call home.” Savannah says the people who work on the show are her family, too.
She also admits it’s hard to imagine returning — given the show’s light, upbeat tone — but said she views the comeback as part of her “purpose.” Savannah adds, “My joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. And being there is joyful — and when it’s not, I’ll say something.”
As you know … Nancy was last seen January 31 after spending time with her daughter Annie and Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni.

Since then, local authorities and the FBI have been working in tandem to track her down — even obtaining doorbell camera footage of a possible suspect … but so far, none of their leads — including alleged ransom notes passed along to investigators — have panned out.
