Donald Trump responded to California Governor Gavin Newsom‘s dare to administration officials to arrest him, with the president suggesting that he would support such a move by his border czar, Tom Homan.

“I would do it if I were Tom. I think it’s great,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday. “Gavin likes the publicity … but he’s done a terrible job. I like Gavin Newsom. He’s a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent. Everybody knows.”

On Saturday, Homan threatened the arrest of even public officials who tried to obstruct immigration enforcement raids in Los Angeles. With protests unfolding over the weekend, Trump ordered the National Guard to the city, in what Newsom and others said was an overreaction that would inflame the situation.

As protests continued on Sunday, with scenes of some burning vehicles playing on cable TV and law enforcement trying to quell the demonstration. Disbursement non-lethal shots, flash bangs, and gas canisters were heard being fired over the crowd by the cops. 

Newsom was asked by NBC News and MSNBC’s Jacob Soboroff about Homan’s comments, and told him, “Come after me. Arrest me.”

“Why doesn’t he do that? He’s a tough guy. He knows where to find me.” 

Trump claimed in a Truth Social post this morning that had they not called in the National Guard, “Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated.”

But a number of media commentators have noted the relative calm in the sprawling region throughout the weekend, which included the LA Pride parade and festivities.

Newsom has expressed alarm by Trump’s move to federalize the guard. The president’s order was not specific to Los Angeles, and it has generated warnings that it could open the door to future efforts by the administration to curb protests.

“They are trying to incite violence,” Newsom said. “They are trying to impose the kind of rhetoric that only makes conditions worse.”

“This is about authoritarian tendencies. This is about command and control. This is about ego,” Newsom said.

Newsom also said that the state is planning to sue the administration, as he was not consulted on the National Guard decision.

California Governor Gavin Newsom unloaded on President Donald Trump Sunday amid violent protests in Los Angeles … accusing the commander-in-chief of being a bald-faced liar and wanting to start a civil war over his immigration policies.

Newsom sat down for a face-to-face with Fox 11 L.A. host Elex Michaelson in the Los Angeles Emergency Operations Center that’s overseeing the police response to chaotic demonstrations in the downtown area.

During the interview with Michaelson, Newsom went for Trump’s jugular, calling him a “STONE COLD LIAR” and insisting he “wants a civil war in the streets of America.”

Thousands of people protested raids carried out by ICE agents to round up undocumented immigrants for the third day in a row Sunday. And things got pretty ugly between protesters and law enforcement, including the National Guard, as cars were set on fire, property was destroyed and graffiti was sprayed on buildings, among other forms of violence.

Not only that … but Newsom refuted Trump’s claim he warned the governor that he would call in California’s own state National Guard if the protests got out of control … Newsom referred to Trump’s comments as “totally and completely untrue.”

Newsom didn’t stop there … telling Michaelson that Trump has “taken the illegal and unconstitutional act of federalizing the National Guard, and he’s putting lives at risk.”

The governor also says Trump is purposely trying to divide the country because it’s good politics for the prez, pointing out anarchists committing crimes at the protests are just helping Trump’s cause.

“They should be arrested. We condemn this destruction of personal property,” Newsom said, adding, “These idiots that are jumping up on cars, that are burning these Waymos, this is a disgrace.”

How do we get calm things down, how do we get the streets safe again?

Newsom responds … “Donald Trump needs to rescind his order.”

3:04 PM PT — Trump doubled down Sunday — declaring, “They spit, we hit,” while urging officials to “liberate” Los Angeles from what he called a migrant invasion in response to the ongoing riots.

President Donald Trump slammed California’s top politicians for what he’s calling a complete leadership failure — unleashing a fiery rant after ICE raids in Los Angeles ignited violent street clashes and left parts of the city in chaos.

Trump went off on Governor Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass Sunday morning on Truth Social, accusing the pair of botching the response to Saturday’s protests, where demonstrators torched a car, hurled rocks, and tagged graffiti across city blocks.

Trump didn’t hold back — dubbing the California governor as “Newscum” and calling Bass “incompetent,” claiming they’ve “failed again” just like with the recent California wildfires.

Trump said … “These Radical Left protests, by instigators and often paid troublemakers, will NOT BE TOLERATED. Also, from now on, MASKS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be worn at protests. What do these people have to hide, and why???”

The President says it got so bad, he had no choice but to deploy National Guard troops to the City of Angels — even though Newsom pushed back. The National Guard arrived at the federal building around 4:30 AM Sunday.

Photos from the first two days of demonstrations captured harrowing scenes … with massive fires breaking out and border patrol agents chucking tear gas in parts of Los Angeles County.
