Threads is working on a new “Communities” feature, which looks a lot like X’s communities, and could be another way to gather users around topics and discussions of interest.

As you can see in these example screens, posted by app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, Threads is developing topic-based discussion groups, which will help users find like-minded and like-interested folk to engage with in the app.

That could drive more engagement and interaction in the app, while also helping to inform the Threads algorithm of what you like through topic-based discussion. And if Threads can get more communities engaging in the app, that could also be a big step towards beating out X, and becoming a bigger focus for more engagement.

Because many topics are still driving huge discussion on X:

X luxury fashion report

While X has seen an exodus of users, there are still many dedicated fans and fan communities within the app, which remain embedded to the former bird platform.

Last March, X reported that time spent in communities had grown by 600% year-over-year, with around 650,000 community posts being created daily

And those communities will be hard to shift, but maybe, the addition of Threads’ own communities could help to highlight similar conversation in its app.

There’s clearly a lot of opportunity there, and if Threads can tap into this, and use these communities as a showcase of its own engagement, that could be a big draw for interested users.

Threads has actually been developing the option for some time, with the initial elements of its communities feature spotted in testing a year ago. The final product could still be a while away from being launched, but the fact that it’s still in development suggests that it is coming, and that Threads is going to make communities a growth focus at some point.

Whether they catch on remains to be seen, but again, they could have a lot of benefits in showcasing topical engagement and user interests.

YouTube’s testing a new option that will enable creators to add collaborators to the video title display, in order to help showcase a broader range of creators across its clips.

As explained by YouTube:

We’re starting to test a feature that allows creators to add collaborators to a video. Adding collaborators allows content to be recommended to each of the creators’ audiences. We’re starting this test with a small group of creators at first, but we’ll keep you posted on our plans to expand it to more creators.

As you can see in this example from the latest video posted by MrBeast, the new option will display collaborators on a video both via their channel avatars, which will be stacked alongside each other, and within the creator listing beneath the title. Tap on the “…and 3 more” tag and you’ll get a full title listing of the channels that have collaborated on the clip.

The option is similar to the collaborative tools available on Instagram or TikTok, providing a simple way to showcase a partner profile within the video description.

Which could be a valuable connector and promotional tool, providing a more direct link through to collaborating channels, which could see more traffic headed their way, especially if they collaborate with a bigger channel.

It’s worth noting, however, that YouTube has been encouraging creator collaborations for years, with its YouTube Academy training resource including a whole segment on collaborating with others, and how to do so effectively.

So collaborations, in themselves, are not new, but YouTube’s looking for a better way to highlight these partnerships within the content itself, so that creators get equal share of the benefits from their shared clips.

And it’s a logical, simple way to do this, which people are already used to in other apps. As such, this seems very likely to be expanded to all YouTube channels in the near future.
