‘Pretty Little Liars’ turns 15! Here’s where Shay Mitchell, Lucy Hale, and more stars are now since leaving Rosewood

Friends share updates. “That’s what keeps us close.”

ABC Family (before it rebranded as Freeform) caught lightning in a bottle when it premiered Pretty Little Liars on June 8, 2010. The pulpy teen drama had viewers returning to the fictional town of Rosewood, Pa., each week to check in on besties Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hanna (Ashley Benson), and Emily (Shay Mitchell) as they tried to keep their darkest secrets from being unexposed by an anonymous, all-knowing messenger named “A” — short for Allison (Sasha Pieterse), their Queen B who disappears in the first episode.

While the bonkers-yet-addictive storylines were more guilty pleasure than critics’ catnip, the show instantly became a pop culture sensation after seven twisty seasons, one spinoff show, and an HBO Max reboot. It built a loyal fanbase who were, yes, dying to unmask A’s many identities — but also stayed for the ultra-2010s, business-casual fits and the irresistible chemistry between its leading ladies, all of whom have gone on to thriving careers.

In honor of Pretty Little Liars turning 15 (the same age Allison was when she disappeared…), catch up with where the original Liars are today. FYI: No burner phones were used to get the info.

Lucy Hale (Aria Montgomery)

Shortly after her series Privileged was canceled in 2009, Lucy Hale became one of the first actors cast on Pretty Little Liars, landing the role of Aria Montgomery — the artsy hipster of the group, known for her long-running affair with her English teacher. But, fun fact: Hale almost ended up on a different show.

“I was offered another pilot, but my gut kept telling me to go towards Pretty Little Liars,” the actress told Cosmopolitan in November 2017. “There was just something about that name that kept replaying in my head, and I knew that that was probably the right decision to make.”

After playing Aria for seven seasons — during which she won seven Teen Choice Awards and a People’s Choice Award — Hale continued acting on the small screen, playing the lead characters on the CW’s Life Sentence, the Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene, and AMC+’s Ragdoll.

Her résumé includes movies, as well. Following a bit appearance in Wes Craven’s Scream 4 (2011), Hale further established herself in the horror scene with lead roles in Truth or Dare (2018), Fantasy Island (2020), and F Marry Kill (2024). More recently, she headlined romances like The Hating Game (2021), Puppy Love (2023), Which Brings Me to You (2023), and Running on Empty (2024).

In March 2025, Hale reportedly began dating TV personality Harry Jowsey. She also regularly celebrates her sobriety by encouraging her social media followers that they are not alone.

Troian Bellisario (Spencer Hastings)

Thanks to her father, screenwriter and producer Donald Bellisario, Troian Bellisario grew up around show business, with one of her first gigs being a guest star on his hit show Quantum Leap in 1990. After a slew of independent short films, Bellisario auditioned for Pretty Little Liars and landed her breakout role as Spencer Hastings, a smart, driven overachiever with a competitive edge that occasionally gets her into unsavory situations.

During her seven seasons as Spencer, the actress starred in the web series Lauren with Jennifer Beals; married Suits lead Patrick J. Adams in 2016; and made her directorial debut the following year in the last season of Pretty Little Liars. Plus, her character’s boldness even carried over into the actress’ press runs. (Yes, she straight-up spoiled the final season’s big ending, but to her credit, no one believed her.)

Bellisario told EW in May 2017 that the last table read was “really emotional,” noting that the cast returned to the room where they first read the pilot years earlier. Saying goodbye was harder than she anticipated, but things looked up for the newlywed when she and her husband attended the royal wedding in 2018, showing support for his former Suits costar, Meghan Markle.

Post–PLL, Bellisario has acted in several TV projects, costarring alongside her husband in the 2023 miniseries Plan B and playing the lead on Amazon’s short-lived procedural On Call. She also appeared in a couple of films like Where’d You Go, Bernadette (2019) and Doula (2022).

Bellisario and Adams share two daughters, the youngest of whom she birthed in a car parked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in May 2021.

Ashley Benson (Hanna Marin)

Ashley Benson had a solid TV résumé when she auditioned for the role of Hanna Marin: a snobby, outspoken, and tough girl who later turns into a loving and loyal friend. She had previously played Abigail Deveraux on daytime soap Days of Our Lives from 2004 to 2007 and Mia Torcoletti on Eastwick in 2009.

Luckily for Pretty Little Liars fans, Eastwick was canceled during its first season, which led Benson straight to showrunner I. Marlene King’s casting call. And if you’ve ever found yourself humming the catchy theme song, “Secret” by the Pierces, you have Benson to thank — she was the one who introduced it to King and the rest of the cast.

During her PLL run, Benson booked a 2013 guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother and reprised Hanna for two episodes of the show’s supernatural spinoff, Ravenswood. On the big screen, she costarred alongside Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Rachel Korine, and James Franco in Spring Breakers (2012).

After the Liars bid the series farewell, Benson landed a major supporting role in the Elisabeth Moss-led rock-star drama Her Smell (2018), where she met and began a two-year relationship with costar Cara Delevingne. She has since appeared in the British miniseries Wilderness (2023) and the psychological thriller McVeigh (2024).

In 2023, Benson married oil and gas heir Brandon Davis, with whom she shares daughter Aspen.

Shay Mitchell (Emily Fields)

Shay Mitchell shines as Emily Fields — a shy, emotional, and somewhat timid girl who fans first meet as a not out lesbian. Emily’s ever-changing moods and growing self-assurance allowed Mitchell to showcase her range as the seasons progressed.

With just one small part in Degrassi: The Next Generation (2009) and a Sean Paul music video under her belt, Mitchell auditioned for the role of Emily and almost didn’t get it. The showrunner later admitted another actress had been attached to the project, but — according to I. Marlene King — Mitchell “nailed” her final audition and ultimately got the part.

During their last days of filming, Mitchell publicly grieved with fans in a heartfelt goodbye on social media. As an onscreen representative of the LGBTQ+ community, Mitchell told PEOPLE in June 2021, “It’s one of the best characters that I may ever play because of the [impact] she had on so many different people. So I’m very fortunate I was able to be the one to bring Emily to life.”

Mitchell has kept busy since Pretty Little Liars ended, starring in season 1 of You in 2018 before working on the comedy series Dollface from 2019 to 2022. In 2024, she began hosting the Max travel show Thirst, where she explores specialty drinks in other countries.

Mitchell has two daughters with her boyfriend, TV host Matte Babel, and even had a YouTube series documenting her first pregnancy. She’s also launched the luggage brand Béis and a sparkling tequila drink, Onda.

Sasha Pieterse (Alison DiLaurentis)

Sasha Pieterse was only 13 years old when she was cast as Alison DiLaurentis, the vindictive, selfish, and cunning (and presumably dead) ringleader of the Liars. Though practically a baby compared to her costars, the actress had already built a solid résumé with her film debut in Robert Rodriguez’s The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (2005), followed by parts on House, CSI: Miami, and Heroes.

After uttering the line that made the entire cast cry during their last table read, she competed on Dancing With the Stars in 2017 and lost 15 pounds during the process. While on the show, Pieterse had gained 70 pounds due to a hormone condition called polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and has since been open about her health journey.

“The changes that were happening to me were documented on camera,” Pieterse said of her PCOS experience while on Pretty Little Liars, in an August 2023 episode of The Squeeze podcast. “It’s been quite the journey, and I love talking about it because I just want women to know more about it. I just feel like the louder you are about it, the more people know.”

Pieterse notably reprised the role of Alison for Freeform’s spinoff Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, in which fans finally learned what happened to her character. She also starred in two Ivy + Bean films (both 2022), The Image of You (2024), and A Carpenter Christmas Romance (2024).

The actress married actor Hudson Sheaffer in 2018. Together, they have a son named Hendrix.

Janel Parrish (Mona Vanderwaal)

Janel Parrish plays Mona, the show’s main antagonist-turned-ally who goes from “Loser Mona” to popular It Girl after Alison’s disappearance. Before her Pretty Little Liars role, Parrish began her acting career as Young Cosette in Les Misérables on Broadway, later appearing in episodes of The Bernie Mac Show, Zoey 101, The O.C., and Heroes, as well as films like Geppetto (2000) and the live-action Bratz movie (2007).

Parrish didn’t secure a series regular spot on PLL until the third season. She notably portrayed one of 2014’s most shocking TV moments when Mona (supposedly) dies, sending fans into a frenzy. “I think if Mona was going to die, that would be the way to do it,” Parrish told EW in August that year. “She is going to go out with a bang.”

She reprised Mona for the spinoff The Perfectionists; played Margot Song-Covey in Netflix’s To All the Boys film series (2018, 2020, 2021) and an episode of its spinoff series, XO, Kitty; and starred in TV films like Falling for Football (2024), Sugarplummed (2024), and Return to Office (2025). She also dominated the reality television competition scene by placing third in both Dancing With the Stars in 2014 and The Masked Singer in 2023 as Gazelle.

In 2018, Parrish married chemical engineer Chris Long in Hawaii.

Bianca Lawson (Maya St. Germain)

With credits for Saved by the Bell: The New Class, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson’s Creek, The Secret Life of an American Teenager, and The Vampire Diaries, Bianca Lawson was already a teen TV pro by the time she joined Pretty Little Liars as Maya St. Germain — the new girl in town who stirs the pot by moving into Alison’s old house. Emily soon bonds with the talkative rebel, and their connection eventually blossoms into a full-on romance.

“[Maya is] very decisive and has this kind of fearlessness about her where she’s just sort of moving in the world who she is,” Lawson told Vulture in November 2021. “She always felt cool to me.”

Even though Lawson’s arc on PLL almost wrecked us, she kept up the momentum after her departure. She landed recurring parts on Teen Wolf, Witches of East End, and Rogue before playing a key role as Darla in Ava DuVernay’s acclaimed series Queen Sugar from 2016 to 2022.

Fun fact: Lawson is the daughter of actors Denise Gordy and Richard Lawson, the latter of whom married Tina Knowles in 2015 before divorcing nine years later. Their union made her a stepsister to singers Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. She’s also the grand-niece of Motown founder Berry Gordy through her mother.

Ian Harding (Ezra Fitz)

Ian Harding plays Ezra Fitz, an English teacher at Rosewood High who falls in love with a student, Aria — a fictional relationship that sparked plenty of controversy among viewers. However, Harding approached his character’s storyline with a more nuanced take.

“For me, there wasn’t a lot to get over. You just said, ‘OK, well, this is a love story.’ It’s made easier by the fact that Lucy Hale is a very beautiful, twentysomething-year-old woman. You just play the love of these two people, and it’s the same sort of trials and tribulations that some relationships have,” he told Glamour in May 2017. “The fact that it’s the teacher relationship is an added taboo that is either titillating or gross, depending. But I try to play the love story to the best of my abilities.”

After Pretty Little Liars, Harding had a notable arc on Chicago Med in 2019 (reuniting with former PLL costar Torrey DeVitto) and led the short-lived basketball drama Long Slow Exhale in 2022. He’s also appeared in major films — including the Jake Gyllenhaal/Anne Hathaway romantic drama Love & Other Drugs (2010) and Best Picture nominee Ford v. Ferrari (2019) — as well as TV movies like Ghosts of Christmas Always (2022), The Magic of Lemon Drops (2024), and Our Little Secret (2024).

In 2019, Harding quietly married his girlfriend, photographer Sophie Hart. Together, they have a son. Outside of acting, he wrote the 2017 memoir Odd Birds, chronicling his life in Hollywood (and, of course, tales from the Pretty Little Liars set). He’s also an ambassador for raising awareness and support for the autoimmune disease lupus, which his mother has lived with for decades.

Tyler Blackburn (Caleb Rivers)

Tyler Blackburn plays Caleb — Rosewood’s bad boy with dreamy hair — and just like Hanna, fans quickly fell in love with his sarcastic and compassionate personality. Playing the recurring role in seasons 1 and 2, the actor was soon upgraded to a series regular role in season 3.

Before Pretty Little Liars, Blackburn had a 17-episode stint as Ian on Days of Our Lives in 2010, and during, he starred as Peter Pan on the 2011 web series Wendy and joined the PLL spinoff Ravenswood before it was canceled after 10 episodes. Blackburn later starred as Alex Manes on Roswell, New Mexico from 2019 to 2022. The actor explained in a post on X that he was absent from the series’ final two seasons due to “intense mental health issues.”

In 2019, Blackburn came out as bisexual, telling The Advocate, “I just want to live my truth and feel okay with experiencing love and experiencing self-love.”

Although Blackburn doesn’t currently have any acting jobs lined up, he is active on social media as an influencer for numerous brands.

Keegan Allen (Toby Cavanaugh)

Keegan Allen is Toby Cavanaugh, Rosewood’s shy loner who is initially accused of being a stone-cold murderer but ends up being a great ally to the Liars — and a brooding love interest for Spencer.

During his PLL stint, he appeared in films like Palo Alto (2013), The Sound and the Fury (2014), King Cobra (2016), and In Dubious Battle (2016), as well as episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Young & Hungry.

Post–Pretty Little Liars, Allen has earned credits for Major Crimes, What/If, Rick and Morty, and Follow Me (2020). From 2021 to 2024, Allen played Liam Walker on the CW’s Walker, Texas Ranger reboot, Walker.

In addition to working on camera, the actor loves going behind it — having published two photography books and regularly sharing his shots on Instagram.

Brant Daugherty (Noel Kahn)

Brant Daugherty is the character fans love to hate: Noel Kahn, the spoiled, rich bad boy who first serves as Aria’s placeholder boyfriend until she’s “old enough” to date Mr. Fitz. While on the show, the actor also appeared in episodes of Days of Our Lives, Army Wives, and Anger Management.

After Noel’s brutal exit in season 7’s summer finale, Daugherty went on to play Anastasia’s (Dakota Johnson) bodyguard in Fifty Shades Freed (2018). Like Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish, he also competed on Dancing With the Stars, finishing in seventh place.

These days, Daugherty has found his groove on the Hallmark Channel — similar to his former castmate Ian Harding — starring in TV movies like The Baker’s Son (2021), Parked for Love (2021), and Trivia at St. Nick’s (2024), among others.

When he’s not playing charming strangers who fall in love in small towns, Daugherty spends time with his wife, actress Kimberly Hidalgo, and their two sons, Wilder and Aero.

Tammin Sursok (Jenna Marshall)

Unlike many of her castmates, Tammin Sursok was a relative star before joining the Pretty Little Liars cast as Jenna — Toby’s younger stepsister, whom Allison blinds with a stink bomb. Her breakout role was on the long-running Australian soap opera Home and Away, appearing in nearly 300 episodes from 2000 to 2004, and she had stints on The Young and the Restless and Hannah Montana.

After scaring the Liars (and audiences) with her signature black glasses and sinister smile for seven seasons, Sursok joined the cast of Australian soap Neighbours for an 18-episode arc as Montana Marcel. She also starred in films like Braking for Whales (2019), Blood, Sweat and Cheer (2023), and Trivia at St. Nick’s (2024) — the latter of which she reunited with former PLL costar Brant Daugherty.

In April 2024, she began cohosting the podcast Pretty Little Liars: True Crime with fellow Pretty Little Liars alum Lindsey Shaw, discussing the twisted secrets and behind-the-scenes dirt.

Sursok has been married to actor/producer/director Sean McEwen since 2011. Together, they have two daughters.

Torrey DeVitto (Melissa Hastings)

Torey DeVitto as Melissa Hastings on ‘Pretty Little Liars’; Torrey DeVitto attends New York Fashion Week on Sept. 11, 2023.

Before Torrey DeVitto was Spencer’s ridiculously smart, perfectionist older sister, Melissa — whose boyfriends had a bad habit of making out with her younger sibling — she had parts on the drama series Beautiful People from 2005 to 2006 and One Tree Hill from 2008 to 2009.

In addition to Pretty Little Liars, DeVitto is known for her roles as Meredith Fell on The Vampire Diaries and Dr. Natalie Manning on Chicago Med. She’s also starred in a handful of holiday romantic comedies.

Previously married to Vampire Diaries actor Paul Wesley from 2011 to 2013, DeVitto tied the knot with director Jared LaPine in September 2024 — four months before welcoming their daughter, Lyle-Josephine Alina.

Drew Van Acker (Jason DiLaurentis)

Drew Van Acker had a handful of acting gigs under his belt before stepping into the role of Alison’s half-brother, Jason DiLaurentis — replacing Parker Bagley after season 1. Early on, he landed parts on Castle, The Lake, Greek, and Tower Prep. While starring on Pretty Little Liars, he also pulled double duty as Remi Delatour on Devious Maids.

After his run as Jason, Van Acker joined the 2017 small-screen adaptation of Training Day (2001) and got into the superhero business with a three-episode arc as Garth/Aqualad on Titans in 2019. In addition to film credits for Life Like (2019), Spy Intervention (2020), and Last Survivors (2021), Acker made a notable appearance in Addison Rae’s music video for “Diet Pepsi.”
