I don’t want to wait, for this reunion to be over.
Dawson’s Creek costars Michelle Williams and Mary-Margaret Humes shared their “first hug in over 22” years at a recent event for Williams’ new series Dying for Sex.
“Embracing the joy of life with beautiful Michelle Williams at last night’s [Dying for Sex] celebration. If you haven’t already seen this limited series … you should. She is brilliant in it,” Humes wrote in a Sunday Instagram post.
The post contained three photos of herself with Williams — staring into each other’s eyes as if in shock at their re-encounter, joyfully embracing, and then posing for the camera with wide smiles. Humes shared the post to her own Instagram Stories, calling the experience “a long awaited reunion with this radiant light.”
Williams was one of the core four stars of the coming-of-age WB drama, alongside Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and James Van Der Beek, who played the titular Dawson Leery. Williams played Jen Lindley, a spunky new arrival to the fictional town of Capeside, Mass., who embarks on a series-long on-again-off-again relationship with Dawson, who lives next door.
Humes played Dawson’s mother, Gail, a former broadcast journalist who strikes out on her own as a restaurateur by opening Leery’s Fresh Fish. The actresses shared many scenes together over the course of Dawson’s Creek‘s six years on the air.
But since the 2003 finale, they haven’t had the opportunity to share any more screen time, and according to Humes’ post, haven’t even seen each other.
Joining Humes, Williams, Van Der Beek, Holmes, and Jackson on the series were Kerr Smith, Meredith Monroe, Busy Phillips, and Mary Beth Peil, who played Williams’ grandmother Evelyn.
“I was actually with James when he signed his first autograph,” Humes remembered. “My husband and I had taken James up to Universal City in L.A. to watch a movie. This girl came up to James and said, ‘Excuse me, aren’t you that guy on Dawson’s Creek? May I have your autograph?’ He signed it and said, ‘Oh my God, Mary-Margaret, that was my first!’ And, of course, my thought was ‘Oh, honey, hang on.'”
Much of the cast reunited in 2018 for Entertainment Weekly on the occasion of the show’s 20th anniversary.

Since leaving Capeside, Williams has blazed a trail toward indie filmmaking fame that has lately circled back to television, first with FX’s Fosse/Verdon, which won her an Emmy in 2019, and now with Dying for Sex, a dark dramedy costarring Jenny Slate.
Humes, meanwhile, has gone on to star in a number of Hallmark originals, including Matchmaker Santa, Home by Spring, and Christmas in Love.
