Dakota Johnson is looking back at the time she was swept off her feet at Saturday Night Live — and not in a fun way. 

The two-time SNL host recently recalled an instance in which she took a nasty tumble and “completely knocked over” an entire set piece while attending a taping of the beloved sketch comedy show.

“I’m obsessed with SNL,” Johnson told Seth Meyers on Thursday’s episode of Late Night before she launched into the story. “So I go and watch and sit where Lorne [Michaels] sits.”

The Materialists star went on to clarify that the fall didn’t occur when she was hosting the show in 2015 or in 2024, but rather when she chose to stop by for a visit one day.

“I went out front with Lorne to watch ‘Weekend Update’ because sometimes [he is] like, ‘Come and watch on the floor,'” Johnson explained. “Which is, like, the coolest thing ever.” 

And after she made her move, she did in fact get acquainted with the floor. “And then I took, like, a tiny step backwards, and I completely knocked over and fell into an entire set piece, and it was like [makes explosion sounds],” Johnson said, waving her hands in the air to depict the destruction. 

The actress said Michaels thankfully had the perfect punchline for the situation: “He was like, ‘You were there, and then you weren’t there.'”

Earlier in their conversation, Johnson confessed to SNL alum Meyers that she thinks her feet are “slightly too small for my body for my height,” and, as a result, she has biffed it a lot over the years. 

“Oh my God, I have fallen so badly,” she admitted. “I fell at Cannes [Film Festival], actually.” 

When asked if people were around when she fell at the festival, which she attended this year, Johnson shook her head and replied simply, “I don’t even — I don’t wanna talk about it.”
