‘Materialists’ cast: All about the swoon-worthy leads of Celine Song’s latest love story

Dakota Johnson as Lucy

Johnson, daughter of Hollywood icons Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, shot to fame as Anastasia “Ana” Steele in the erotic Fifty Shades film series (2015–2018). Since then, her star power has grown with standout roles in How to Be Single (2016), Suspiria (2018), Bad Times at the El Royale (2018), The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019), The Lost Daughter (2021), and Madame Web (2024).

Up next, she’s keeping busy on and off-screen, starring in and producing the 2025 comedy Splitsville. Johnson will serve as lead actress and executive producer for the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel Verity (2026).

Johnson stars in Materialists as Lucy, a failed actress who’s reinvented herself as a top-tier matchmaker (with nine marriages to her name) at the elite New York firm Adore. Entertainment Weekly‘s critic describes Lucy as “blunt at every turn, often to the point of brutality,” adding that her “assessment of the ways in which financial security remains a key dating consideration for even the most independent of women is both keenly perceptive and a personal defense mechanism.”

Chris Evans as John

Since the late 1990s, Chris Evans has racked up an impressive list of blockbuster credits, including Fantastic Four (2005) and its 2007 sequel, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010), and Snowpiercer (2013). But let’s be honest, he’s best known as Marvel’s ultimate hero, Captain America, a role he carried from 2011 to 2019.

Post-superhero life hasn’t slowed Evans down, and he brought charm and edge to Knives Out (2019), Defending Jacob (2020), The Gray Man (2022), and Red One (2024). He also lent his voice to Lightyear (2022) and reprised his role as Lucas Lee in the animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023).

Next on his slate is the detective comedy film Honey Don’t! (2025) and the action adventure comedy Sacrifice, in which she stars alongside Emmy nominee Anya Taylor-Joy and Grammy winner Charli XCX.

In Materialists, Evans steps into the role of John, Lucy’s ex-boyfriend and a struggling actor working part-time as a caterer. EW’s critic deemed John “an irresistible screw up, a golden retriever of a man who can’t seem to reckon with the fact that sometimes love is not enough.” Still, he is “wholesome and winsome, making it clear from his first entrance why Lucy once loved him.”

Pedro Pascal as Harry Castillo

SAG award winner Pascal has been stealing scenes (and hearts) for years, but he truly rose to fame with unforgettable turns on Narcos (2015–2017), The Mandalorian (2019–2023), and The Last of Us (2023–2025). 

He’s since established himself as a movie star, with leading roles in Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), Strange Way of Life (2023), Drive-Away Dolls (2024), The Wild Robot (2024), and Gladiator II (2024). 

With The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026), and Avengers: Doomsday (2026) on deck, Pascal’s big-budget era is just heating up.

Pascal plays Harry, a wealthy finance guy dubbed a “unicorn” who sets his sights on Lucy after meeting her at the wedding of one of her clients. EW’s critic writes, “As finance bros go, he’s enlightened, self-deprecating, and self-aware enough to transcend the implications of that world.”

Zoë Winters as Sophie

You might recognize Zoë Winters as Kerry from Succession (2019–2023), Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) assistant-turned-mistress. Her performance helped earn the cast a SAG award for outstanding ensemble, and she’s been making a name for herself ever since. On the silver screen, she’s popped up in the sci-fi dramedy Jules (2023) and the thriller Cold Wallet (2024).

Winters also has an extensive stage resume, shining in several acclaimed Off-Broadway productions like Heroes of the Fourth Turning (2019), which earned her an Obie award and a Lucille Lortel nomination, along with turns in White Noise (2019) and Walden (2024). 

Winters brings a quiet poignancy to Materialists as Sophie, one of Lucy’s clients who struggles to find meaningful connection in the modern dating world. In the trailer, Sophie admits she’s just “trying to settle” at this point, which captures the exhaustion and hopelessness she feels in her search for love.

Marin Ireland as Violet

Tony nominee Marin Ireland, hailed by the New York Times as “one of the great drama queens of the New York stage,” has done a bit of everything. She’s dominated the Broadway scene in Reasons to Be Pretty (2008) and Summer and Smoke (2018), and held her own alongside powerhouses in The Irishman (2019), Sneaky Pete (2015–2019), The Umbrella Academy (2020–2022), and Dope Thief (2025). 

Next up, she stars in Netflix’s twisty new mystery thriller His & Hers, opposite Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal.

Dasha Nekrasova as Daisy

Actress, filmmaker, and Red Scare podcast co-host Dasha Nekrasova has a history with Winters, seeing as she also appeared on Succession (2021) and was part of the cast that won a SAG award for outstanding ensemble.

She made her directorial debut with the provocative horror film The Scary of Sixty-First (2021), which earned the Best First Feature Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. You may also recognize her from her viral interview with InfoWars in 2018, after which she was colloquially dubbed “Sailor Socialism.”

Nekrasova portrays Daisy, one of Lucy’s coworkers at Adore.

Louisa Jacobson as Charlotte

Louisa Jacobson, the youngest daughter of Oscar winner Meryl Streep, has made a name for herself as Marian Brook on HBO’s lavish period drama The Gilded Age (2022–present). While her on-screen resume is still growing, Jacobson is already a force in the theater world, having starred in productions like The Member of the Wedding (2018), Romeo and Juliet (2019), and Lunch Bunch (2023).

Jacobson plays Charlotte, one of Lucy’s clients who’s getting married to the love of her life.

Eddie Cahill as Robert

Eddie Cahill has lent his talents to numerous shows and movies, including Friends (2000-2001), Miracle (2004), CSI: NY (2004–2013), Under the Dome (2014–2015), Conviction (2016–2017), and most recently, Omni Loop (2024).

Cahill plays Robert, a 48-year-old man Lucy randomly meets on the street and recruits for her matchmaking services. In the trailer, he tells her he needs to “meet someone more grown,” to which Lucy suggests a “really beautiful” 31-year-old woman, only for Robert to reply that he “wasn’t really thinking 30s.”

Joseph Lee as Trevor

You might recognize Joseph Lee as sculptor George Nakai from Netflix’s hit anthology series Beef (2023), a performance that snagged him an Emmy nod for Best Supporting Actor. But he’s also appeared in Searching (2018), The Miracle We Met (2018), and Star Trek: Picard (2023), proving he’s got insane range.

Up next, Lee’s set to join Law & Order: Organized Crime (2025) and dive into the high-tech world of Apple TV+’s sci-fi series Neuromancer.

In Materialists, Lee plays Trevor, one of Lucy’s more picky clients whose entire dating criteria revolves around finding a woman who’s fit and has a BMI under 20.

John Magaro as Mark P.

John Magaro has been quietly delivering award-worthy performances for years, and it’s about time he’s getting the recognition he deserves. You might’ve seen him in Carol (2015), The Big Short (2015), Orange Is the New Black (2015–2019), The Umbrella Academy (2019), The Many Saints of Newark (2021), and September 5 (2024). He also starred in Song’s acclaimed feature directorial debut, Past Lives (2023).

The actor has a busy schedule, with upcoming roles in the drama Omaha (2025), the German music drama Köln 75 (2025), the heist film The Mastermind (2025), and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s monster flick The Bride! (2026), which draws inspiration from James Whale’s 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein.

Magaro reunites with Song for Materialists, portraying Mark P., a man Lucy sets up with her client Sophie. Though he never appears on screen, Magaro lends his voice to the character.
