- J.J. and Melody met through friends
When J.J. Spaun won the 2025 U.S. Open, his wife, Melody Spaun, was there to celebrate his first major title win.
“Honestly, I feel like he’s always been the underdog, and he’s finally proved himself,” Melody told reporters following her husband’s victory in a video shared by the PGA Tour on X. She went on to call him “one of the most humble people I know.”
Melody first watched J.J. compete in the 2016 Northern Trust Open (now the Genesis Invitational) and was a little overwhelmed by the experience.
“She was intimidated by like everything,” J.J. recalled in a January 2023 interview at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. “And I’m like, ‘This is the life you’re going to live, get used to it.’ ”
Fast forward to today and Melody has fully embraced life on tour. When asked how he would rate her acclimatization, J.J. didn’t hesitate. “She’s a 10 … like as far as accepting the lifestyle,” he shared.
So who is J.J. Spaun’s wife? Here’s everything to know about Melody Spaun and her relationship with the golf pro after his US Open win.

J.J. and Melody were first introduced through mutual friends in Orange County, Calif., he told reporters during his 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions interview.
Though the athlete opened up about his work, Melody wasn’t sure what to make of it.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m a pro golfer,’ because I thought I was cool. But she’s like, ‘I don’t even know. What does that mean? Like, does that mean you’re like rich or something?’ I was like, ‘No,’ ” J.J. recalled. “And she’s like, ‘I don’t really care.’ ”
The two later went on a mini golfing date, which she called “lame,” he joked.
They married in 2019
Despite their initial misstep, sparks flew between J.J. and Melody, and the couple wed on July 12, 2019, in a romantic beachfront ceremony.

J.J. and Melody are parents to two little girls. They welcomed a daughter, Emerson Lili, in 2020 and another daughter, Violet Windsor, in 2023.
Emerson shares a sweet birthday connection with her mom, Melody.
“Happy birthday to my wife (11/16) and also to our new baby girl Emerson Lili. Born 11.14.20 💜,” J.J. wrote on Instagram shortly after their firstborn arrived.
Their growing family has also influenced J.J.’s professional decisions. When Melody was expecting their second daughter, the timing of her due date played a major role in whether or not the Arizona-based golfer would travel to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship in June 2023.
“[Melody] was the one who said, ‘If the baby comes Monday, would you consider going? I would allow you to go, but I kind of don’t want you to go, but if you can make it worth your while there, then I’m OK with you going,’ ” J.J. told CT Insider ahead of the tournament.
Ultimately, Violet was born on that Monday. J.J. went on to participate in the tournament but unfortunately didn’t make the cut, according to ESPN.
Fast forward, both of the couple’s daughters were there to see J.J. win the US Open in 2025, which just so happened to fall on Father’s Day. In a photo shared on X, Emerson and Violet can be seen sitting on their dad’s lap as he signed his score card.
“It was so cool to just have my whole family there on Father’s Day. It’s just incredible,” J.J. told reporters, per Golf Digest. “I have no words to describe the moment and them being able to see me as the winner.”

While Melody didn’t know much about golf when she first met J.J., she quickly realized how much time the sport demanded. After the birth of their first daughter, she proposed a practical solution: a five-hour rule for practice rounds.
“It was good,” J.J. said during his 2023 press conference at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. “Like, okay, you get five hours. You gotta be back by this time. Because sometimes I can get stuck out here for a long time.”
The time cap helped J.J. stay focused and efficient.
“I don’t mess around and fraternize or socialize with everyone,” he added. “Kind of just do my thing. Get it in there.”
Depending on J.J.’s performance, the pair also left room for flexibility in the plan.
“She said, ‘Well, yeah, if you start missing some cuts, we can adjust; we can add a couple hours there,’ ” he continued. “These are the conversations I have. I’m not even joking. I mean, this is how our marriage … doesn’t get too sideways. Happy wife, happy life.”

During the 2025 Masters, Melody supported J.J. during the Par 3 contest, sporting a caddie suit alongside their daughter, Violet. In one photo, Melody and Violet smile at each other as Melody hands her daughter golf balls.
J.J. narrowly lost the Par 3 to Nicolas Echavarria, who won in a playoff with a birdie at the second hole, per Yahoo! Sports.

While the family was happy to celebrate J.J.’s win at the 2025 U.S. Open, it had been a chaotic weekend for them.
“Today I was running to CVS in downtown because my daughter had a stomach bug and was vomiting all night long,” J.J. told reporters after his victory, according to Golf Digest. “My wife was up at 3 a.m. … So it was kind of a rough start to the morning.”
Ultimately, J.J. triumphed over leader Sam Burns after a rain delay. After his win, J.J. hugged Melody and their two daughters, who even joined him when he signed his winning U.S. Open scorecard.
